To install CAM, you must have the following:
Note Cisco recommends that you install CAM on a Sun Ultra 60 system with dual CPUs to allow for future expansion of managed dial pools. |
Table 1 lists the shelves for the Cisco AccessPath system stacks (Cisco AccessPath-TS3 and Cisco AccessPath-LS3) and the Cisco System Controller, and the release of Cisco IOS software that each shelf is running. CAM will operate properly if each of the shelves in the Cisco AccessPath system and System Controller are running the correct software release listed in Table 1:
Shelf | Software Release |
---|---|
1Catalyst 5002 runs Catalyst software, not Cisco IOS software. |
In order for the CAM 4.0 Modem Image Management function to work, the modem cards must be placed in slots 1 and 2 of NAS devices running Cisco IOS 12.0(5)T and above.
This section describes requirements for Oracle user logins for installation and autoboot.
If the Oracle login is enabled for interactive mode, the installation or boot will hang. This usually happens if the login scripts, such as .cshrc, .login, and .profile, invoke the coraenv or oraenv scripts provided by Oracle. If these scripts are invoked by the Oracle user login and if the ORAENV_ASK variable is set to YES (default) before invocation, then interactive environment variable settings confirmations are required. This is not possible during the CAM installation or at boot time.
The following example for C shell shows how to request noninteractive coraenv script operation.
In the Oracle user .cshrc file (or similar startup file), add the following lines to clear the ORAENV_ASK environment variable:
Note The methods for setting variables are slightly different for Bourne and K shells. |
The CAM installation package contains scripts for automatically creating the CAM database. For more information on the CAM database installation, refer to the README.database file on the CD-ROM in the cdrom0/CSCOcam/reloc directory. After installation, this file is also included in the /opt/CSCOcam directory.
The following issues are related to the Netscape browser software.
If the CAM server is located outside the United States, the CAM client browser will display the local time for the client as Greenwich Mean Time plus the appropriate offset. If the offset is less than one hour, as with parts of Australia, CAM will not be able to display the time properly. [CSCdm44629]
CAM supports Netscape browser (Communicator or Navigator) Version 4.05 for Solaris 2.6, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 95. If you do not have the Windows version for the Netscape browser, you can use FTP to transfer the executable file cp32e405.exe from the /opt/CSCOcam/win directory, and run the executable to install a copy on your machine.
Note If you use FTP to transfer files from the /opt/CSCOcam/win directory, use binary mode file transfer. |
Caution CAM only supports Netscape browser Version 4.05. CAM does not support Version 4.06 or later. For more information, see the "CAM Does Not Work with Netscape Browser Version 4.06 and Above" section. |
See Table 2 for more information on using your Netscape browser for the various platforms:
Platform for Netscape Browser | Netscape Browser Automatically Installed? | Location of Netscape Browser |
---|---|---|
1The self-extracting zip file is in the /opt/CSCOcam/win directory. You can FTP the executable file cp32e405.exe to your Windows NT or Windows 95 machine, and run the executable to install Netscape on your machine. |
If multiple windows of your Netscape browser are running CAM on the same machine, the user interface (UI) push will only take effect on the first window that you started. This is because Netscape has only one virtual machine (VM) for every Netscape browser window running on one machine.
To download, store, and view HTML reports graphs on your computer, you need a copy of an applet called graph.class in the directory where you store your HTML graph files. To set up HTML graph reports viewing:
Step 2 Download the graph.txt file to the directory on your hard drive where you will be saving and opening HTML graph reports as follows:
a. Press Shift and use the left mouse button to click the graph.txt icon.
b. In the Save As... dialog box, select the directory where you will be storing the HTML graphs you want to view. Click Save.
Step 3 Rename the graph.txt file as graph.class.
You can now view any of the graphical HTML reports in this directory. You can also copy this graph.class file to any other directory from which you will be opening HTML graph reports.
This section contains software caveats and suggestions for optimum use of CAM software. Where applicable, the software caveat includes the Cisco DDTS tracking number enclosed in square brackets: [CSCdjxxxxx].
This section describes software UI caveats.
This is because of a bug in the Java Management Application Programming Interface (JMAPI) tree widget. [CSCdj87899]
Tip Deselect the device name by selecting a different tree item. |
The Netscape browser uses cached information instead of retrieving information from the server. [CSCdk31185]
Tip Restart your Netscape browser. |
The call count HTML tables for ApmTrafficProfile and ApmTrafficLoad might sometimes have entries with No Data strings, during the initial polling cycles. This occurs even after waiting for the required minimum number (three) of polling cycles. This inconsistent problem is difficult to reproduce.
While displaying the call count HTML table, the report generation currently excludes the records from the apm_hist_channels when the number of CURRENT CALL COUNT is less than OLD CALL COUNT. This condition can occur when the device is rebooted or when the counter is reset. Sometimes reboot can happen more than once between two polling cycles. In this case, synchronize the data, consider the old call counts to be 0, and display only the current call count (which may be a delta value). No Data strings may be displayed because it is possible to have the number of OLD CALL COUNT greater than CURRENT CALL COUNT.
It is acceptable for the No Data string to be displayed in the HTML table in addition to the initial polling cycles when the following conditions are met:
If a Stack Modify operation is scheduled, you can go to the Task Manager to view the status of the operation. If the operation fails, the status indicating failure is displayed. Generally, the reason for the failure is also displayed. However, for a failed scheduled Stack Modify, it is not displayed. [CSCdk27055]
Tip You can find the reason why the operation failed by going to the ApmCron.log file and searching for errors for the scheduled Stack Modify operation. |
When a group, stack, shelf, or user is deleted, all history of these objects is also deleted. [CSCdk33957]
On some Monitor screens, the poll time is displayed as retrieving data or N/A. In other cases, No Data Available is displayed on the screen. [CSCdk42564]
Tip Go to /opt/CSCOcam/db/ck_db_local.sh, and run this script file to determine if the database is up. |
Stack values are greater than the sum of the individual shelves. It appears as though the totals of the packet drops from the previous poll are included in the stack totals. Additionally, the shelf totals omits the number of packets discarded. [CSCdk43782]
The clock set is required for the system controller to connect with the 5300/5800 and generate a performance data file. [CSCdm12994]
Tip After modifying a 3640 to an SC3640, set the clock manually or modify the stack and enter a ntp server address. |
When using the configuration file manager to restore a prior configuration on a Cisco AS5300, errors may occur after using the command "peer default ip address pool default" if a console connection is used. This may occur in both DMM and HMM shelves. [CSCdm04709]
Tip Invoke the Configuration File Manager, select the saved configuration file, and cut and paste the contents of the device manually through a telnet session. |
When updating a shelf's configuration file, the configuration file manager only updates the configuration in the device, but not the CAM database and the GUI. The Configuration File Maker does not scan the file content when downloading a configuration file to a device. Consequently, if the information (such as the host name and interface IP addresses) in the configuration file is different from the information in the CAM database, that will cause a discrepancy between the CAM database and the actual status of the device. For example, the CAM GUI will not display the new host name set in the new configuration file, or CAM may report the device as unreachable because of the different IP addresses set in the new configuration file. [CSCdm10533]
Tip Confirm that the information (especially the host name and IP addresses) matches what shows in the CAM GUI. |
The stack line statistics for the DS1 lines are hidden behind a vertical scroll bar. As a consequence, users cannot view the line stats for DS1 lines beyond the 7th line. This occurs with Windows95 and WindowsNT only. [CSCdm12729]
Tip In order to use the scroll bar for DS1 lines, users must scroll horizontally to see and use the vertical scroll bar for DS1 lines. |
When a Cisco IOS download is aborted because an identical Cisco IOS image already exists on the shelf, the popup message in CAM says that the Cisco IOS download was done successfully. [CSCdm16728]
Tip Carefully check the IOS version of the image on a shelf and the Cisco IOS image that you wish to load on it. CAM cannot load an identical Cisco IOS image on top of an existing image. |
The configuration manager does not confirm that the minimum required Cisco IOS is running in the devices to be configured. [CSCdm17144]
Tip The user must confirm the minimum correct Cisco IOS image version before attempting to configure a device using Configuration Manager. |
This section describes software configuration caveats.
When downloading a large configuration file to a Cisco AS5800, CAM may receive an invalid command response from the router concerning some valid command-line interface (CLI) commands. [CSCdk43519]
Tip Try the operation again. Use the copy tftp startup command on the router to load the configuration file directly into the startup configuration file, and reload the router. |
If the Cisco 3640 in a Cisco AccessPath system stack is not configured to use AAA, and it is configured to require login and password authentication through its console connection, CAM will not be able to configure any stack devices through the Cisco 3640. [CSCdk42033]
Tip Configure the Cisco 3640 with AAA first. |
When attempting to update the Cisco IOS image for a shelf, the error message "IOS Image Manger: IOS image update: Total of 2 errors in stack image load" may appear. [CSCdm21008]
Tip Ignore the error message. |
If you try to edit a configuration or template file greater than 28,672 bytes, you will receive an error message, such as:
where xxx is the shelf state ID number of this configuration file. [CSCdk28825]
Step 2 Rename the file.
Note The filename on the CAM server will be used in the configuration and template manager. Do not disconnect from CAM until you complete Step 5. |
Step 3 Delete the name from the graphical user interface (GUI) first to use the same name in the configuration and template manager.
Step 4 Import the modified file from the CAM server.
Step 5 Remove your file from the /tmp directory if you do not need it anymore. Importing the file does not automatically remove it from the CAM server.
If the Catalyst 5002 is created after the Cisco 3640, then the Network Time Protocol (NTP) command is incorrect. [CSCdk46186]
Tip Log in to the Catalyst 5002, and enter the set ntp server IP address of 3640 Loopback1 command in enable mode. |
This is because the Cisco IOS software does not display the linecode and framing commands for the E1 controllers. During the modify procedure, CAM compares the running configuration with the configuration downloaded by CAM. Because the running configuration does not match the downloaded configuration, CAM reconfigures the controllers. The reconfiguration results in the serial interfaces being deleted and readded by the Cisco IOS software. You are not able to see the deletion and addition. The following is an example of how the Cisco IOS software configures the serial interface:
Tip Do another modify without changing anything. |
This problem only occurs in AccessPath stacks with a System Controller. [CSCdm19725]
Tip Don't configure the Catalyst 5002 in CAM. Copy the configuration commands from the Preview Configuration screen (invoked by clicking on the "Preview Configuration..." button on the last screen of the Create/Modify Catalyst 5002 Shelf dialogs, and paste them down to the device manually via a telnet session. |
This section describes a Netscape browser caveat.
The Java Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT) implementation changed between versions 4.05 and 4.06. [CSCdk46094]
Tip Use Netscape browser Version 4.05 only. For more information on installing Version 4.05, see the "CAM Requires Netscape Browser Version 4.05" section. |
