The Cisco Service Selection Dashboard (Cisco SSD) is a specialized web server that allows users to log on to and disconnect from Internet and tunneled services through a standard web browser.
After the user opens a web browser, the Cisco Service Selection Gateway (Cisco SSG) allows access to the Cisco SSD. The Cisco SSD prompts the user for a username and password. After the user is authenticated, the Cisco SSD presents a list of available services.
When a user selects a tunneled service, there is another username and password prompt. After authentication, the user can access the service until the user logs out from the service, logs out from the Cisco SSG, or is timed out.
Simple user interface---Ships with a standard set of HyperText Markup Language (HTML) pages that allow users to easily select services.
No client software---All Cisco SSD software resides on the Cisco SSD web server. Users do not need to download any special software, drivers, or plug-ins.
Service Grouping---Services can be arranged in a directory structure to provide organization for a large number of services.
Fully customizable HTML---Web pages, framesets, and graphics can be customized to meet the needs of your organization. The web pages and framesets are clearly commented and indicate which areas can be modified and which areas must remain unchanged.
Support for Netscape and Microsoft browsers---Web pages are compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later.
Cisco SSG/Cisco SSD synchronization---Frequently queries the Cisco SSG for the status of user connections.
Account Logon/Logoff---Provides an interface so users can log on to the Cisco SSG. The Cisco SSD also provides a guest option that allows users to log on without authentication and access guest services. For example, new users could access a registration service where they could select and sign up Internet access and services.
Service Logon/Logoff---Provides a list of services and a logon for each.
Auto Service Logon---Automatically logs users onto services when the user accesses the Cisco SSD.
Text messages---The Cisco SSG frequently sends asynchronous messages to the client. These messages are collected by the Cisco SSD and presented to users when they open the message viewer.
Compatibility with multiple web servers---Included Acme Web Server software runs in conjunction with Apache, Netscape, and Microsoft web server software.
Single localization file ---Uses a single localization file for translating all system messages and error messages from the Cisco SSG and the Cisco SSD.
Easy configuration---Configuration parameters can be configured through a simple configuration utility.
Advanced Help---Provides both online help and a debug utility to explain software functionality and troubleshoot problems.
This section describes hardware and software requirements for web servers where the Cisco SSD will run and for browsers that will access the Cisco SSD.
Browsers that access the Cisco SSD must meet the following minimum requirements:
Support for full Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) 1.0, HTML 3.2, and frames.
Netscape Navigator 3.x or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x (Netscape Communicator 4.x or later and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or later are recommended).
