The IGS/TR is a two-port multiprotocol router available with one Token Ring connection and one high-speed (up to 4 megabits per second) serial port.
The IGS/TR is software configurable for 4- or 16-Mbps Token Rings. It contains a
20-MHz Motorola MC68030 processor with 1.5 MB of system memory (expandable to 4.5 MB using SIMMs), eight 32-pin sockets for IGS software ROMs, and 32 kilobits of non-volatile memory for storage of network configuration information.
The IGS/TR Token Ring interface uses a Texas Instruments TMS380C16 Commprocessor Token Ring chip set, which executes the FASTMAC software licensed by Cisco from Madge Networks. FASTMAC is a sophisticated data-buffering and data-transfer program that enhances TMS380C16 performance.
Figure 1-1 shows the IGS/TR chassis from a front view.
From the observer's left to right, the light emitting diode (LED) indicator lights represent the following, depending on which option is installed as the second interface:
Table 1-1 provides a summary of the IGS/TR hardware specifications.
