Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

The following troubleshooting tips might help resolve a configuration problem without the need to contact your support representative.

If you contact your support representative regarding your Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway (Cisco  6510) configuration, have a diagram of your network with IP addresses and subnet masks available, and have a copy of the output from the config show command.

If you have a recurring problem or encounter a problem that you cannot resolve, Cisco recommends placing the Cisco  6510 in debug mode. To place the unit in debug mode, enter the debug command with the appropriate parameters. The command parameters for the debug command allow you to debug specific service handlers, such as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) handler, the Domain Name System (DNS) handler, or the Remote Access Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) handler. You can also display a level of granularity for debug messages. For example, you can specify error to display error messages or packet, to dump the contents of packets handled by the Cisco  6510.

When you enter the debug command, debug messages are output to the device specified by the logtarget command. For detailed information on the debug command, see the "debug" section. For information on the logtarget command, see the "logtarget" section.

Note Enabling debug handlers will result in increased overhead and decreased performance.

Rebooting

If a Cisco  6510 is truly crashing (as opposed to just rebooting), it will page fault. Capture the page fault and provide it to your service representative to determine whether the issue is known.
