0.2. Typographical Conventions

Italic: Used for filenames, usernames, directories, commands, hostnames, URLs, and terms when they are first introduced.
Constant width: Used for Perl module and function names, and when showing code and computer output.
Constant width bold: Used to indicate user input in examples.
Constant width bold italic: Used for parts of a command line that are user replaceable, or code annotations.
