Burn CDs and DVDs

You can make your own CDs by burning files onto a blank disc using the CD Writer Drive of your computer.

Ubuntu includes CD burning capabilities by default, and allows you to easily create data CDs, copy CDs and DVDs and create CDs from a disc image file.

Burning audio CDs

It is possible to copy music from your computer onto a CD, so that it can be played in another CD player. You must have a CD recording drive to be able to do this.

When you put a blank (recordable) CD in the drive, Ubuntu will ask if you want to make an audio or data CD. Clicking on Make Audio CD will open the Brasero New audio disc project window. Alternatively, you can launch Brasero by pressing Applications → Sound & Video → Brasero Disc Burning, but you will need to click on the Audio project button to begin creating your audio CD.

To add music to your audio CD, either drag music from your File Browser or press the Add button. Alternatively, if you have not yet selected any files, the frame to the right of the window will offer other file selection choices.

You will also need to select the size of the CD which you inserted (74, 80, 90, or 100 minutes), which can be done by clicking on the CD icon located below the frame on the right. Brasero will warn you if you exceed the set limit.

The Rhythmbox Music Player is also able to burn audio CDs.
