The Cornell Gatedaemon Project produces "GateD" (pronounced gate-
dee), modular routing software used worldwide to interconnect
packet-switched networks. It supports multiple IP and ISO network
routing protocols. It is used by researchers, implementors, and
industry as:
a platform for new network routing protocol deployment
a source of routing protocol reference implementations to
test against
a distribution mechanism of new protocol implementations
a bootstrapping facility providing the core for the
development of commercial products
a means of access to leading edge network research and
development
The GateDaemon Consortium presents a formal structure to support
and expand the current successful collaborations already in place
to develop GateD functionality. The consortium will:
improve communication about and interchange of key technologies
allow functionality needed by the community to be delivered on a more
timely basis
build a broader funding base for a predictable future
streamline licensing procedures
improve technology transfer between academic and industry
Membership is open to all organizations interested in supporting
and participating in development of internetwork routing
protocols. Membership is not a prerequisite for licensing of
GateD source code.
Membership benefits include:
assurance that GateD will continue to be freely available to the
Internet community
active discussions of development features and goal setting
in-depth technical seminars on new GateD features and capabilities
internships, where an organization can send an employee to work and
learn about routing software with GateD development staff
developer residencies, whereby an organization with an employee who is
making contributions to GateD can receive Consortium funding for that work.
Members will contribute financially according to a sliding scale.
There are currently four levels of membership:
Sponsor: U.S. $50,000
Associate: U.S. $25,000
Affiliate: U.S. $15,000
Academic or Startup: U.S. $5,000
To join the Merit GateD Consortium, the member must sign a Consortium
agreement and pay the membership fee. For more information, contact
