Cisco Discovery Protocol
is an incredibly powerful troubleshooting tool.
Available on all Cisco routers and switches, the protocol operates between
Cisco devices on media that support SNAP. The protocol has been available
since IOS 10.3.
CDP packets are sent as a multicast and are not forwarded by the router
or switch.
Following is a sample of the CDP report on a Catalyst 5505 switch with
three neighbors:
