Other encapsulations may be used on serial interfaces, but HDLC is used
for synchronous data link control.
show interface serial
Command
The
show interface serial
commands provide you with a great deal
of information to help you when you troubleshoot serial line and other serial
interface-related problems, such as Frame Relay. However, in order to
get correct information, you should first clear the counters for the interface
of interest.
Before you do so, look at the output of the
show interface serial
1
command:
Router_A>show interface serial 1
Serial1 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is HD64570
Internet address is 172.16.30.5/30
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec, rely 255/
255, load 1/255
Encapsulation HDLC, loopback not set, keepalive set (10
sec)
