Summary
T
his chapter dealt with aspects of troubleshooting TCP/IP networks. It
covered everything from the tools used to troubleshoot to a summary of
what to do when you see a specific problem. Here's what was covered:
TCP/IP diagnostic commands (such as ping, traceroute, debug, and
all of the show commands), which can be used to troubleshoot TCP/
IP-related problems.
Common LAN and WAN access problems that may be encountered,
as well as methods for troubleshooting TCP/IP hosts in addition to
routers.
Access lists, which may be used in conjunction with the debug tool.
They may also be the cause of some network failures. It is important
to understand the criteria used and how the criteria is compared to the
packets.
Several routing protocols, each one with its own set of show and
debug
commands that can be used when troubleshooting routing
problems.
