Stepping through the traceroute process
This can be proved by moving one hop closer to Router C. The
ping
and
traceroute
commands use the interface closest to the next hop. Because
directly connected addresses are automatically placed in the route table,
Router B has a route to Router C, and vice versa. Look at the route table for
both routers:
