Network Problems
Although each network can face countless problems associated with performance, problems
generally can be categorized into three areas:
·
Media
·
Protocols
·
Transport
-- What's the problem?
Slow performance on the network.
-- What's the cause?
Too many collisions?
Too many broadcasts?
Too little transport?
Media
Media problems are usually caused by too much traffic on the network. A symptom of this
problem might be excessive collisions on Ethernet or long waits for the token to pass in Token
Ring. LAN switching is the recommended solution for congestion caused by media contention.
