660 Appendix A: Answers to Review Questions
27
When redistributing protocols, why is it important to consider the metric differences of
each protocol?
Different protocols have different methods of determining the best route. When one route
is redistributed into another, it must adopt the metric standards of the protocol it is being
distributed to. If metrics are not taken into consideration, the protocol receiving the
redistribution will not enter the distributed routes properly.
28
What is the lowest administrative distance available to implement routing policy?
Directly connected.
29
What is the simplest form of switching path available on a Cisco router?
Process switching.
30
What is split horizon?
Split horizon helps prevent routing loops. It tells a router not to broadcast a learned route
back through a port from which it received the learned information.
Chapter 7
1
What limitations of RIP, the first Internet routing protocol, was OSPF designed to
overcome?
Limited range of 15 hops.
Slow convergence.
Susceptibility to routing loops.
2
What are the four types of connections for the OSPF routing protocol?
Point-to-point.
Point-to-multipoint.
Broadcast.
Nonbroadcast.
3
Name the four classifications of OSPF routers.
Internal.
Area border router (ABR).
Area system border router (ASBR).
