Scenarios 469
Figure 12-29
Scenario 1 Suggested Solution
The CCDP has decided to meet the requirement to simplify the desktop by doing a number
of things:
·
Installing 3270 emulation software on the desktop PCs. This allows the company to
eliminate the 3270 terminals that were cluttering up the user desktops.
·
Installing a Novell Netware SAA server. This is needed so that the PCs can attach to it for
SNA access. The PCs would be a LU from the mainframe's viewpoint. The PCs will
access it via the NetBIOS-over-IPX protocol. This solution also meets the requirement to
decrease WAN traffic to the mainframe by allowing the PCs to establish a session with the
SAA Gateway and not to the mainframe.
·
Installing an Ethernet card in the SAA gateway. This allows the CCDP to eliminate the
expensive Token Ring segment to the users' dumb terminals.
Answer to Scenario 2
There are other ways of meeting the company's requirements. This is only a recommended
solution that meets the requirements placed on the CCDP. Figure 12-30 depicts the
recommended solution.
