Scenarios
RouteitRight has a mainframe in New York that 200 users access from Baltimore via 3270
terminals on their desktops connected via Token Ring, as shown in Figure 12-27. The 200 users
also have PCs on their desktops that they use to access a Novell server via Ethernet for common
everyday applications, the Internet, and so on. RouteitRight's Richmond location has 300 users
with only 3270 terminals. This is where only the Payroll department resides. Figure 12-27
shows the current environment.

Scenario 1 Current Environment
Scenario 1: Baltimore
RouteitRight has the following requirements:
·
Simplify the desktop by consolidating the two devices (the 3270 terminal and desktop
computer) into one device.
·
Eliminate the expensive Token Ring segment to the users.
·
The company has noticed some congestion on the WAN link. Decrease the amount of
explorer traffic traversing the WAN link to New York.
·
All users must still be able to perform the same duties they currently perform from their
desktops.
