426 Chapter 11: Remote Access
Answer to Scenario 3
This solution is not the only solution; there are other ways of meeting the company's
requirements. This is only a recommended solution that meets the requirements placed on
the contractor.
Figure 11-22 depicts a recommended solution. At the central site:
·
A Cisco 7507 router can support all the sites. To meet the T1 backup circuit requirement,
a VIP 250 with up to eight PRI interfaces could be installed. If the requirement was for all
13 sites to be backed up at the same time in case of a full outage, there could be two VIPs,
making a total of 16 T1 backup circuits.
·
At the regional sites, one option would be to use Cisco 7200 routers. They would be able
to support the ten branch offices, and also a PRI for the backup link to the central site.
·
At the branch offices, Cisco 1700 routers meet the requirement for VPN capability.
·
They would need the ISDN backup card. The 1700 series also comes with a 100 Mbps
Ethernet port.
WARNING
Even though the 1700 comes with a 100 Mbps Ethernet port, it does not support ISL trunking
capability.
