Remote User Access Equipment 415
AS5200
The newer models are similar to the 5100 but provide a more powerful CPU. The Cisco AS5200
universal access server is a versatile data communications platform that provides the functions
of an access server, a router, modems, and terminal adapters (TAs) in a modular chassis.
AS5300
The AS5300 is the next step in Cisco's award-winning AS5x00 family of universal access
servers. The big difference in this access server is the ability to terminate ISDN, 56 K analog
modem, fax, and VoIP calls on the same interface. The Cisco AS5300 universal access server is
intended for telecommunications carriers and other service providers, as well as large
enterprises that require consistent high-density connectivity for subscribers and telecommuters
connecting to the Internet and corporate intranets. It also acts as a VoIP gateway, which makes
it a very attractive choice when migrating customers to VoIP.
AS5800
The 5800 series can connect to the phone company with a channelized T3. (A T3 connection is
equal to 28 T1s, or 45 Mbps with HEC-formatted frames, and 40 Mbps with PLCP-
formatted frames.)
The Cisco AS5800 provides the highest concentration of modem and ISDN terminations
available in a single remote access server product. Typically, this is a carrier class access server,
but it can be used within very large companies. Additionally, the Cisco AS5800 Voice Gateway
enables highly scalable deployment of toll-quality voice and fax service over packet networks.
Cisco 3600 Series Routers
The Cisco 3600 series is a family of modular, multiservice access platforms for medium- and
large-sized offices. The 3600 series multiservice access servers and routers provide a modular
solution for dialup and permanent connections over asynchronous, synchronous, and ISDN
lines. The 3600 routers use RISC processors. As many as six network-module slots are provided
for LAN and WAN requirements. The 3620 provides for two slots, the 3640 four slots, and the
3660 six slots. The Cisco 3600 family provides solutions for data, voice video, hybrid dial-in
access, VPNs, and multiprotocol data routing. The 3600 series can process-switch 8000 packets
per second, which is approximately one-fourth the power of a 7200 series with the
NPM-400 processor.
Cisco MC3810 Multiservice Router
The Cisco MC3810 series multiservice access concentrator accepts data, voice/fax, and video
signals as inputs to the router. It can connect to ATM, Frame Relay, and leased-line networks.
