Remote LAN Access
Two methods of remote LAN access, remote control and remote node, are discussed in this
section.
Remote Control
A typical example of remote-control LAN access is the popular program PC Anywhere. With
this program, an engineer can dial into a PC at headquarters and assume control over the PC as
if they were actually sitting at the PC at headquarters. With this type of remote access, security
is a natural concern because the PC at headquarters must be left on at all times to be able to
accept calls.
Another drawback of remote-control LAN access is the overhead required when transferring
Windows images across the dialup connection. In Figure 11-12, the user dials into the corporate
PC and assumes control of the desktop.
