networks are running OSPF with a different backbone. In addition to connecting the two
networks, CIS has requested that authentication be placed on the network for security. As soon
as the new budget is approved, CIS and CIE will explore combining the network backbones into
a single area. Until the budget is approved, CIS and CIE prefer to keep each backbone separate.
Can you recommend a temporary solution for CIS and CIE?
Figure 7-12 shows the current CIS and CIE topologies.

Answer to Scenario 1
The purpose behind the redesign of the OSPF network is to have faster convergence and
response on the network. If the router uses fewer CPU and memory resources and has a smaller
routing table, it can perform quicker route lookups. The edge routers do not need to know all of
the WAN routes to make routing decisions. These routers could be configured as stub routers.
In addition, routes can be summarized. Summarization is not an automatic process within
OSPF. By default, all routes get advertised throughout the OSPF domain. Summarization can
be configured on the ABR or the ASBR.
Given the following:
OSPF Route 1 172.168.70.0/24
OSPF Route 2 172.168.72.0/24
OSPF Route 3 172.168.74.0/24
