Scenarios 211
If EIGRP uses the same AS number as IGRP, redistribution of IGRP into EIGRP and
redistribution of EIGRP into IGRP occurs automatically. If EIGRP uses a different AS
number, the network administrator needs to configure redistribution manually with the
redistribute command. The redistribution of IGRP/EIGRP into another EIGRP/IGRP
process doesn't require any metric conversion, so there is no need to define metrics or use
the default-metric command during redistribution.
IGRP routes redistributed into EIGRP are marked as external. There are two caveats with
EIGRP/IGRP redistribution within the same autonomous system: Internal EIGRP routes
are always preferred over external EIGRP or IGRP routes, and external EIGRP route
metrics are compared to scaled IGRP metrics.

Where might summarization assist in the redistribution process?
To ensure that connectivity is maintained during redistribution, all classless OSPF routes
must be summarized to the same mask as the interface running RIP or to a classful
boundary.
